The family of a popular nursery teacher has donated nearly £1,400 to the school she dedicated her life to.

Gill McIntosh died suddenly last month, after suffering a brain hemorrhage at home in Aberlour.

All the staff from Hythehill School in Lossiemouth – where she taught, and attended as a youngster – attended the funeral.

Mourners were asked to make a donation to the school at the funeral, to create a lasting legacy for Mrs McIntosh.

Yesterday, her husband Jamie made an emotional visit to the school to hand over the £1,360 total. He was greeted by the nursery pupils, who gave a massive round of applause for the enormous gesture.

Mr McIntosh said: “Gill just devoted her life to the nursery. She loved it. There’s nowhere better for the money to go.

“She often spoke about how the nursery could do with a better outdoor area or how the children might enjoy a few nice trips away.

“It was more than a job for her. The nursery and the children really were her whole life.”

While Mrs McIntosh taught at the nursery, her husband was a regular visitor to class – emulating the role of Bob the Builder as Jamie the Joiner to teach the children basic woodwork skills.

Mrs McIntosh’s father Harry Sinclair, sister Vic Sinclair and 10-year-old niece were also at the school yesterday.

Her sister said: “It’s been really nice to come into the school and see everyone. It meant so much to her and I’m sure Gill would have wanted it.”

Flowers and cards were sent to the school following the emotional news which devastated the staff and 300 pupils.

Head teacher Suzanne Gilbert said: “She dedicated herself to ensuring every child was successful in all they aspired to achieve and actively encouraged parents to be included in their child’s nursery experience.

“She will be sincerely missed and has left a huge and lasting impact on Hythehill school and nursery.”
