VIDEO: Moray military wives choirs aiming for Christmas hit

Moray’s military wives choirs are hoping their Christmas wish comes true when their festive album storms the music charts.

The singing groups from RAF Lossiemouth and the Kinloss Army Barracks recorded tracks for a charity compilation in Edinburgh earlier this year.

Last night, members of both choirs donned seasonal clothing and gathered at Kinloss’s Cumming Hall to celebrate its imminent release.

The Home for Christmas album will be on sale in shops, or available to download, from tomorrow.

Kinloss chorister, Jenn French, has arranged a party so the singers can hear it for the first time.

She said: “Everybody has been really excited, and we will get together as soon as we can once the album is out to listen to it.

“All of my family and friends have pre-ordered it, and my older next door neighbour ordered a CD from the internet for the first time just to make sure he gets it.

“It would be lovely for it to do well in the charts, but we are up against Justin Beiber so that could take some effort.”

Lossiemouth singer, Victoria Moffat, explained the significance Home for Christmas holds for members of the choir.

Mrs Moffat said: “It feels surreal that we are on an album like this, we have heard the Home for Christmas song already and it sounds gorgeous.

“Several of our members know what it’s like to have a loved one away at Christmas, and the song brings a lump to the throat.”

And Mrs Moffat’s four-year-old daughter, Elliotte, is “over the moon” at her mum’s foray into the music business.

“Every time I look around Elliotte is playing the song and saying ‘my mum is on that'”, she added.

Mrs Moffat and fellow singer, Hazel Mathieson, will be signing copies of the CD in Elgin’s WH Smith store on Sunday.

Military Wives Choirs from across the UK lent their voices to the album, and the Moray groups recorded their songs in Edinburgh’s Usher Hall.

The Kinloss and Lossiemouth choirs feature on opening track Home For Christmas and a version of Deck The Halls.

The album also features traditional Christmas classics like Silent Night and Jingle Bells.

All proceeds will go to the Military Wives Choir Foundation charity.
