Police are cracking down on boy racers who are thundering around residential parts of a Moray town in their cars.
Keith residents have welcomed renewed efforts to target antisocial motorists who are making peoples’ lives a misery with their noisy driving.
Police carried out patrols in the town over the weekend, in response to pleas that the community council group made on behalf of locals.
Yesterday the force revealed that four people were “educated in relation to speed”, while others were charged with careless driving and for driving without insurance.
Sergeant Krystle Ross said: “We’re aware of community concerns around driver behaviour in the Keith area and arranged for these days of action.
“Road safety is a priority for us and we will continue to target those who choose to drive irresponsibly.”
It is understood that young motorists refer to an area around Fife Keith as “the circuit”, and pensioners living on Regent Street have previously complained about suffering “years of disturbed nights” because of drivers exceeding the speed limit.
One woman said that the youths routinely “race” along the route to Keith Square while “revving their engines all the way”.
Last night, Keith Community Council’s Sandy Dickson said he hoped the police operation would send a message to those motorists.
Mr Dickson added: “You get some pretty noisy cars between the two squares, as they run between the speed bumps accelerating and decelerating.
“It sounds like the police have got some positive results, and if it is kept up I think that will continue.”
