A Moray drink driver is considering selling his house after being banned from the roads.
George Reid, from Grange, near Keith, was caught more than four times over the limit after being spotted behind the wheel.
Yesterday, the 62-year-old received an 18-month driving ban after pleading guilty to the offence at Elgin Sheriff Court.
He is now considering leaving his home, which he bought about a year ago, due to being unable to cope with rural life without his car.
Fiscal Kevin Corrins explained that witnesses became concerned when they saw Reid drive the “wrong way” into the Institute Lane car park in Keith on December 5.
He said: “Members of the public suspected he was under the influence of alcohol. One person described him as ‘blootered’.”
Police later traced the driver before he failed a breath test shortly before 2pm.
Defence solicitor Stephen Carty explained his client had “had a bit of a night” the evening before and had continued drinking until the early morning.
He added: “The difficulty for Mr Reid is his home address. It is remote with no public transport and no shops. He depends entirely on his car.
“The loss of his licence will have a hugely significant impact on him. His intention is to sell his home and move back to London.”
Reid was also fined £600 after being found to have 89mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath – the legal limit is 22mcg.
