Plans to expand a Moray care home as part of a modernisation project have been unveiled.

Abbeyside Care Group want to build a 28-bed extension to Grove Residential Home in Elgin.

The care operator, who has three homes in the town, say the single-storey building will allow for a contained garden to do outdoor activities.

The project is expected to cost between £1million-£2million.

Brian Yeats, managing director of Abbeyside Care Group, said the proposals were part of attempts to modernise their portfolio and create more opportunities for the ageing population in Moray.

He said: “We put in for planning permission just so we can have everything ready if that is the route we take.

“It is for a big extension and is going to be state-of-the-art, meeting modern requirements by being ground-floor and each room having en-suites.

“It can only be a good thing for both our company and for Moray.”

The plans also include a new social area to give residents more freedom, and with everything on one floor it would make it easier and safer for them to get about.

Mr Yeats, who also runs Abbeyside and Abbeyvale Nursing Homes in Elgin, said:  “We fully support care in the community and it is growing larger in Moray and there is now a bigger demand for homes like Grove in the future.

“Obviously we are going to hold discussions with Moray Council and the joint board to find out what sort of appetite there is for a project like this but hopefully they will support the direction we want to go in.

“Part of our remit is to offer is to offer good quality care for the elderly and dementia and with this project we can do that.”
