A Moray couple, who danced together when they teenagers, have just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

Mr and Mrs Cameron, both 84, received a telegraph from The Queen congratulating them on the milestone.

Lady lieutenant Clare Russell and Speyside Glenlivet councillor Louise Laing also visited the couple to present them with a bunch of flowers.

They enjoyed a quiet celebration at home with their family and friends over the weekend.

Mr Cameron suffered a stroke three years leaving him with mobility issues and Mrs Cameron now cares for her husband.

Their daughter Heather Johnston said it means they are now unable to take part in one of their favourite pasttimes.

She said: “It has been hard for my mum because dad suffered a stroke.

“But up until that, they really enjoyed dancing in Ellon and they would go away on cruises all over the world.

“It was dancing that brought them together and it is an important part of their relationship.”

Mrs Cameron revealed the secret to their six decades of wedded bliss.  She said: “It is about give and take.  We have our ups and downs but it is important to compromise.”

After spending a fortnight’s honeymoon in Stirling, they returned to Dufftown and set up home in Louise Street.

Mr Cameron enjoyed a varied career with 24 years as a baker followed by 27 years as a distillery worker at Glenfiddich.

He also served as a period as a retained firefighter.

Mrs Cameron was born and bred in Rothes, but spent most of her life in Dufftown. She was a dressmaker at William Lipp and Sons until she got married.

When her children grew up, she returned to work in the county hospital in Dufftown, before it closed in 1984.

Later, she was employed at both the Glenview daycare centre in Dufftown and the Linnburn daycare centre in Rothes.

The couple have six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Mr and Mrs Cameron have three daughters Hilary and Hazel, who both live locally, and Heather, who stays in Ellon.
