A Moray sports group has been overwhelmed with generosity after its fundraising lunch generated £15,000.

Keith and District Sports Development has already cancelled a proposed rise in registration fees following the event at Ugie House Hotel.

Guest speakers Donald Findlay and Frank McAvennie attended the event compered by Ian Thain to help support the cause, which also included an auction.

Now the group has revealed that the final total will help support its sports events throughout the coming year.

Secretary Ashley Inglis said: “We were overwhelmed by everyone’s kind generosity who helped to make it a massive success.

“The money raised will be used to purchase much-needed new equipment and strips and to help us with yearly running costs.

“This money will also mean we can cancel our plans to increase our registration fees this year, ensuring we can continue to provide football which is affordable and accessible to all.”
