Central belt firm appointed to draw up 380-home vision for Elgin site

A Central belt based company has been appointed to develop final proposals for a housing development in Moray.

The Bilbohall project in Elgin was originally conceived more than a decade ago as part of the aborted Western Link Road project.

However, the vision for homes on the barren site between Elgin High School and Wards Road has been retained to help keep up with demand for houses in the town.

A masterplan for 380 homes on the land has already been approved to help guide construction.

Now Collective Architecture, who has offices in Edinburgh and Glasgow, has been named as the winning tender for a £479,000 from five bids to prepare and submit detailed planning applications on behalf of the Bilbohall Consortium, which is a partnership of Moray Council, Scotia Homes and Grampian Housing Association.

Concerns have been raised about the new roads being used as a “rat run” for motorists due to it creating links to a crossing over the railway in the west of Elgin.

However, the masterplan includes commitments to make the area less attractive for drivers by including speed bumps, narrower streets and raised junctions.
