An Aberdeenshire man is cycling from Lands End to John O’Groats to raise money for two charities close to his heart.

Mike Stuart, from Alford, will take on the 874-mile charity cycle in aid of the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation and the Forget Me Not Club in Banchory.

Mr Stuart, who is involved with Doric organisations, has pencilled in the challenge for early July but will need to wait and see amid the lockdown whether it can take place.

He said: “I always like to challenge myself and can’t wait to take this challenge on.

“The Doric page started as a carry on and things developed from there.

“Fingers crossed things start to ease up and we still manage to do it in July. ”

Mr Stuart added: “At the time the Sports Personality Of The Year was on the TV and Doddie Weir was on the news all the time so it struck us.

“Motor Neuron Disease is a truly heartbreaking thing.

“The Forget Me Not Club is close to me as some of my grandparents are struggling with dementia.”
