The walkway of the old East Beach Bridge in Lossiemouth has been almost completely removed.

Soon only the support beams of the bridge will be left standing following what has been described as a “bittersweet” week for the local community.

Works began to deconstruct the bridge on Tuesday and have been ongoing since.

The bridge was more than 100 years old and closed in 2019 due to concerns for public safety. Further concerns that the structure might start to crumble meant it was time for the bridge to come down.

In the latest photos from the esplanade and beach, diggers can be seen removing sections from the bridge.

Rab Forbes, a member of the Lossiemouth Community Development Trust said the removal will “hurt a little” for those in the community with fond memories of it.
