Police are hunting for thieves who stole laughing gas from a north east hospital.

The gang took off with nitrous oxide cylinders from Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin at about 10:20pm on April 3.

Two men and a woman were seen driving away from Pluscarden Road in a white car with the boot open shortly afterwards.

The men are described as being approximately 25 years old with local accents. One was wearing a black jacket and jeans and the second man was clothed in a blue jacket and jeans.

The woman is described as being around 18 years old with long black hair.

Constable Brian Donaldson, who is investigating the theft, warned Moray residents that the inhaling the gas could be dangerous.

He said: “Nitrous oxide, or N2O, is commonly known as laughing gas and has analgesic properties when used medically, however worryingly it has been known to be used illegally as a recreational drug and can be used by car enthusiasts as a fuel additive.

“Nitrous oxide can be a dangerous substance if it is misused or consumed without medical supervision.

“Also, any attempt to interfere with the pressurised cylinders may result in serious injury if they are not handled correctly.”

Anyone who is offered this gas or has any information relating to the theft is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101.
