Dry weather and a smashed record added up to a successful 174th Tomintoul and Strathavon Highland Games.

Upwards of 1,600 people attended the Speyside event on Saturday.

A particular highlight was Grangemouth-based Kyle Randalls’ record throw in the junior heavies light hammer.

As well as the traditional Highland programme of competitive events, visiting members of the public were able to get stuck into a series of fun competitions, such as the 100 yard dash, barrel rolling, pillow fighting and the famed Tomintoul Tilt the Bucket challenge, in which pairs of contestants attempted to joust a bucket from a wheelbarrow while travelling at speed and trying not to get soaked.

Jim Fraser, who is in his third year as chieftain of the games, said: “We were very lucky for weather. It was a bit breezy, but dry. The park was a wee bit wet, but it stood up quite well.
