A woman who launched into a late night racist tirade and told a Moray takeaway employee to “go back to his own country” was fined when she appeared in court yesterday.
Christine Williamson drunkenly blasted Turkish takeaway worker Ahmet Toprak for “taking our jobs” and earning “too much money” at the Speedy Peppers Kebab Shop on Forres High Street in April.
The 55-year-old admitted behaving in a racially aggravated and threatening manner in the early hours of April 25 when she appeared at Elgin Sheriff Court.
Williamson, of 13 Christine Road, Elgin, also admitted shouting and swearing at Mr Toprak and being in possession of cannabis with a street value of £15-£20.
Fiscal Alison Wylie told the court she was “clearly intoxicated” when she entered the premises at 1.45am.
She said: “When she went in she was being abusive. Her behaviour was concerning to the two Turkish people there.
“She was making racist remarks, saying things about him being a foreigner and told him to go back to his own country.
“She then gestured a slashing motion across her neck and said I’m going to cut your throat.”
Solicitor Brent Lockie said it was “quite clear” his client was intoxicated at the time and she was “embarrassed” by her conduct.
Sheriff David Hill fined Williamson £450, after which she offered her “sincere apologies” from the dock and said she had “no memory” of the incident.
