A96 remains closed after cyclist seriously injured on “dangerous” roundabout

A section of Moray’s busiest trunk road remains closed after a cyclist was seriously injured on a “dangerous” roundabout.

The crash happened on Elgin’s West Road at 10.20am outside the town’s Dr Gray’s Hospital, on the A96 Aberdeen to Inverness road.

The man’s discarded bike remains at the scene, after it was struck by a passing black Vauxhall Astra estate car.

UPDATE: Cyclist has suffered “serious head injuries”. Road now re-opened.

Police say the cyclist’s condition is serious, and officers are awaiting word on his condition.

The alarm was raised by a worker in the nearby Bean and Gone coffee shop.

The employee said he regularly observed near-misses on the roundabout and described it as “dangerous”.

It is expected the road will remain closed from the Wittet Drive junction to the post office roundabout for hours while investigations into the crash take place.
