A Moray woman, who was captured on CCTV causing nearly £3,000 worth of damage to parked cars has been ordered to pay more money to her victims.
Hazel Innes was caught in damning footage gouging marks along three vehicles in Buckie on January 22.
Yesterday, at Elgin Sheriff Court, it was confirmed the 44-year-old had paid £2,845 to her solicitor to reimburse the victims of her vandalism in full – but she was then fined an extra £340.
CCTV footage of the crime on Seaview Road has been viewed about 700,000 times since it was put online by victim Shona Coull at the beginning of the year.
During her court appearance, Innes continued to give no motive for scratching the cars while walking her pug dog at about 6pm.
Solicitor Matthew O’Neill said: “She can’t give any explanation for why the incident happened. In fact, the people are known to Miss Innes and she has no grudge towards any of them.”
Fiscal Kevin Corrins told Sheriff John Rafferty the damage had appeared to be carried out “randomly”.
Innes scraped an item, believed to be a key, along the length of a £15,000 4×4 on Seaview Road before damaging two other vehicles in James Street.
Meg Munro was shocked to discover her Nissan Qashqai had not been the only car vandalised during the incidents. Alan Strachan had owned his Honda CRV for less than a year when Innes scraped it from the petrol cap to the front.
Police soon identified the Buckie resident as being the woman wearing the fluorescent jacket in the film.
But, despite the images, Innes initially denied being the culprit in the incriminating footage before deciding to admit the charges.
Sheriff Rafferty accepted she had made efforts to pay back the victims of her actions. But Innes, of 9 St Peters Road in Buckie, was fined £340 after admitting three charges of wilfully or recklessly destroying property belonging to another.
