A devastated mother broke down in tears today as she paid tribute to her young daughter who died in a horror crash which left another schoolgirl fighting for her life in hospital.
Tragic Neringa Narusyte died after the black Vauxhall Corsa she was travelling in collided with a Nissan Terrano on the B9016 Keith to Buckie road.
Another girl, also aged 14, suffered life threatening injuries and was to be transferred to Glasgow by air ambulance for treatment following the smash on Wednesday night.
The accident happened on the B9016 Keith to Buckie road near Rye Riggs, Aultmore.
Ilona Narusiene, 34, said her daughter had been out with friends during the night and had known the 17-year-old driver of the car. Two other girls, aged 16 and 17, were also seriously injured.
Heartbroken Mrs Narusiene paid tribute to her daughter at the family home in Buckie.
She said: “She was a lovely, nice girl. She was just a teenager. “She’s always going to be loved and remembered.
“I still can’t believe that she’s gone.
“She liked speed, going on rollercoasters and that sort of thing. Anything thrilling.”
Shocked family and friends brought floral tributes to the house today as word spread throughout the close knit community about their devastating loss.
The family moved to the Moray coast 11 years ago from Lithuania. Neringa was a 3rd year pupil at Buckie High School and had just started back to classes after the October holidays.
Her sister Erika added that her Snapchat loving sister was popular at school and had a lot of friends.
She added that she would always remember Neringa as an outgoing and loving sister. Thefamily had recently visited England, where they posed for a picture on the London Eye.
The 14 year old is survived by older sister Erika, 17, 10-month-old baby brother Jay and step dad Colin Milne.
Friends paid tribute to the pretty teenager on social media.
One girl tweeted: “Worst things happen to the best people has never been so relevant.”
Police said two other injured girls, aged 16 and 17, were taken to Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin by ambulance after the crash and were believed to be in a stable condition.
The other 14-year-old girl suffered multiple injuries and arrangements were being made for her to be airlifted down to Glasgow for specialist treatment.
Independent Buckie councillor Gordon Cowie said there had been several accidents on the road where the tragedy happened.
He said: “It’s a road you need to be very careful on.
“The road has claimed two or three lives in the past. I wouldn’t say it is a dangerous stretch of road but it is a road where you have to take a lot of care on, there are a lot of bends on it.
“Our condolences go out to the family, we are thinking of them at this sad time.”
Road Policing Sergeant Rob Warnock appealed for witnesses to come forward.
He said: “My thoughts, and that of my officers, are very much with the family and friends of the 14-year-old girl who sadly died in this tragic collision.
“I would appeal to anyone who may have seen the crash or who may have seen either vehicle shortly beforehand and who hasn’t yet spoken with police to do so as a matter of urgency to help us piece together exactly what happened.”
