A panto in February? Oh yes there is! Little girls to dress as princesses for Moray show

Young girls across Moray have been encouraged to dress up in costumes fit for a princess when they attend an upcoming production of a classic fairy tale.

Buckie Community Theatre plans to banish any winter blues with a lively performance of Cinderella in the town next month.

And organisers are keen to add to the magic of the occasion by filling the audience with dozens of miniature princesses for each performance.

Producer, Glen Campbell, said a special Cinderella gift bag would be given to the youngster who attends in the most eye-catching attire.

Mr Campbell added: “We want to make everyone feel part of the show, and we think that will really add to the atmosphere.”

The cast of nearly 50 are deep in rehearsals for the show, meeting up twice a week and spending hours every Sunday learning their lines.

The performers range from pre-teens to those older than 70 and Mr Campbell explained the benefits of staging a panto in February, despite the shows being traditionally associated with the festive season.

He added: “It generally is more typical for amateur productions to take place in the early part of the year.

“We find we have better audiences then, without having to compete with larger shows, and it helps cheer everyone up at this time of year.”

Director and scriptwriter, Kevin Oakes, promised a vibrant show, packed with local humour and stunning special effects.

Mr Oakes will also play the role of Buttons, and a crew of young players have been given parts as members of his gang.

Shows are scheduled at 7pm from Wednesday, February 1, to Saturday, February 4, with an additional matinee performance that day at 2pm.

Tickets are available on 01542 832637.
