Highland League ground in Moray hit with two break-ins within a week

The pie shop at a Highland League football ground has been closed following two break-ins within as many days.

Cans of juice, sweets and ice cream have been stolen during raids at Buckie Thistle.

The club was hit by thefts last year and installed a reinforced window to guard against break-ins.

However, the strengthened glass has now been smashed following the incidents.

Last night Raymond Cardno, vice-president of Buckie Thistle, estimated the value of the broken window and stolen goods at up to £400.

He said: “It’s just vandals. It’s frustrating more than anything else because it’s wasted money for us just putting things right again.

“It happened last year so we put in that reinforced window. It’s just like it’s exploded in the way though, they must have used a spade or something.

“It’s probably just kids but it’s sheer vandalism. When it happened last year they could have gotten themselves killed with the way they went over the wall. The last thing we would want would be to get sued for something stupid like that.”

The break-in forced Buckie Thistle to close the pie shop at Victoria Park for last night’s match against Fraserburgh with catering instead being served from a function hall window.

The first theft occurred overnight between Monday evening and Tuesday afternoon with the second incident happening overnight between Tuesday and yesterday morning.

Yesterday a police spokeswoman confirmed the incident had been reported to them and explained that inquiries were ongoing.
