When Nemet Ali arrived in Moray from Pakistan as a 15-year-old boy in 1954 he had just 10 shillings in his pocket.

After moving in with his uncle in Lossiemouth, however, he put his entrepreneurial skills to work by going door-to-door, selling clothes out of a suitcase.

After establishing himself in businesses and moving to Buckie, the Faisalabad native grew his clientele and developed into a successful entrepreneur.

Now the firm he established, Buckie Furniture, is preparing to celebrate its 40th anniversary with former customers being invited to share their memories of four decades of the West Church Street store.

Today the company continues to be run by the family, with the late Mr Ali’s son, Zafar, now at the helm.

Mr Ali said: “I learned a lot from my father and for a business to last 40 years in today’s current climate we have had to adapt to our customers’ needs.

“We have a very large and loyal customer base from Inverness to Aberdeen.

“Throughout 2020 there will be various competitions and offers to reward our customers and to thank them for shopping with us over the last 40 years.”
