A flower shop in Moray has closed after an employee tested positive for Covid-19.

Boda Flowers in Buckie will be shut until next week after a member of staff was found to have the virus.

Two other employees were also tested during the weekend with both returning negative results.

However, owner Katie Chalmers has taken the decision to close the West Cathcart Street store temporarily after being told to isolate regardless of the tests’ findings.

The businesswoman confirmed the reason for the closure on social media, explaining that she believed “transparency is key”.

She said: “Our co-worker has tested positive. We are distraught for her and her immediate family. The circumstances surrounding this situation are truly heart-breaking.

“The shop is closed and all customer orders have been contacted and cancelled.

“I have been told to isolate for 14 days from August 11. I think it’s only fit to shut until this period is over so there is no risk to anyone.

“If anyone has been in the shop from Tuesday and is concerned then please get in touch. I would like to add we wear our masks, use sanitiser and have always taken the utmost precautions daily.”

Mrs Chalmers has since paid tribute to the “overwhelming support” from the coastal community while pledging to be back in the shop once her isolation period has been completed.

Moray has had the least amount of coronavirus cases out of all the mainland council areas in Scotland.

However, six of the 98 total from the duration of the pandemic have been recorded within the last week amid warnings to residents to observe advice and take precautions to limit the spread.

A mobile Covid-19 testing unit continues to be in operation at Elgin’s Lossie Green car park for those who have symptoms and have booked an NHS test.
