Pupils at a Moray academy will be given the building blocks of a successful career thanks to a new initiative.
Youngsters at Elgin Academy will be given the chance to gain vital experience for the future with the Robertson Group, which is headed up by a former pupil.
Construction magnate Bill Robertson CBE has decided to give something back to his former school to celebrate the 50th anniversary of his firm.
The school, which already has a work experience programme, has said the firm’s roots in the town gives the initiative added significance.
David Barnett, head teacher, said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Robertson with the shared aim of developing the young workforce. The fact that Robertson has its roots in Elgin provides that special piece of added relevance for our students.
“We look forward to the many exciting opportunities which lie ahead for our young people in developing their careers.”
Pupils will be offered work placements and site visits as part of the programme.
But the firm will not restrict youngsters to the construction industry and will also offer employability skills sessions and competitions.
And the project will launch this month, with third-year pupils being tasked with designing a climber’s retreat.
Jade O’Hara, young people’s champion at the firm, added: “Robertson is very proud of its roots in Elgin and we’re really enthusiastic about working with the academy.
The Robertson Group now employs more than 2,000 people across 21 distinct businesses in Scotland and the north of England.
