A drug dealer who concealed £750 worth of cocaine in a plastic capsule, which came with a brand of children’s sweet, has been jailed.
Police stopped Kevin McGregor on Forres High Street last month after spotting him behaving in a suspicious manner.
When officers searched the 30-year-old, they found a yellow container from a Kinder Surprise chocolate egg in his pocket.
But rather than a small toy, they discovered 10 bags of Class A drugs crammed into the case.
McGregor, of Gilcomston Court in Aberdeen, was imprisoned for eight months when he appeared at Elgin Sheriff Court yesterday.
Police stopped McGregor on Friday, December 16, noting that he “appeared to be under the influence of something”.
Fiscal, Alison Wylie, said: “They searched him and found a container from a Kinder egg, and in it were 10 small bags of white powder.”
The bags contained various quantities of cocaine, with a total street value of about £750.
The accused later admitted being involved in the supply of a Class A drug.
His solicitor, Ian Cruickshank, suggested Sheriff Olga Pasportnikov impose a community payback order rather than a jail term.
But he conceded that his client was “balancing on a precipice” and “looking at a custodial sentence”.
Sheriff Pasportnikov said: “Dealing Class A drugs normally attracts a custodial sentence and there is nothing here to detract from that.
“There are some significant previous convictions, for analogous offences.”
She backdated the eight-month sentence to December 19, when McGregor was originally locked up.
