A Moray distillery has marked its 120th anniversary by commissioning a series of paintings capturing its grounds in a new light.
Master distiller at Glen Moray in Elgin, Graham Coull, had been keen to mark the moment in the site’s history in a meaningful fashion.
And after his wife Faye attended an exhibition by Portgordon artist Daniel Fairbairn, Mr Coull decided to enlist his services for the occasion.
Mr Fairbairn thereafter strived to capture something of the distillery’s character in a series of three paintings – which are now hanging in the tasting room.
Mr Coull said: “My wife went to see Mr Fairbairn’s work when it was on display at the Glenfiddich distillery in Dufftown, and it snowballed from there.
“I met him a few months later and it struck me that his paintings could be a great way to mark the anniversary of the distillery, as they would stand the test of time.
“They are supposed to show it as a busy working environment, rather than as a picture postcard.
“One picture has actually shown a plume of steam coming from the building, which I really like.
“Maybe we will do something like this again in 10 or 20 years, to show how it has changed.”
Mr Fairbairn was made redundant during the oil downturn in 2016, and now works as a carer for vulnerable adults while aspiring to make a living through art.
The dad-of-two began his latest assignment by having a “good wander” around the Glen Moray grounds to see what aspects of the site sparked his creativity.
He added: “The three pictures took about four months to paint, and are now being seen by visitors from all across the world.
“This is such a transformative opportunity for me, as a chance to broaden my reach.”
