Two new testing centres for coronavirus have been set up in the north-east.

The mobile units have been established in Elgin and Peterhead to bolster the larger regional sites in Aberdeen and Inverness.

Yesterday, work began to open 13 new locations across Scotland as part of the UK Government’s testing programme.

The units will be staffed by military personnel wearing protective clothing and will offer testing to key workers showing symptoms as well as those in their households.

The test centre in Elgin is in the Lossie Green car park.

Up to 300 people per day will be able to use the drive-through facilities, with equipment being used to allow patients to remain in their car while being tested.

No equipment will be left at the site at the end of each day of testing and Moray Council has stressed there will be no risk to members of the public.

The test centre in Elgin has been established at the Lossie Green car park.

Moray Council issued a warning to motorists to move their vehicle from certain spaces on Wednesday evening.

Yesterday morning, staff began cordoning-off part of the car park with signs put up to direct motorists towards the testing area.

Eligible key workers can book a slot for the unit online on the UK Government website.

Results will be issued by text message or e-mail within 72 hours.

Other locations already identified for the latest wave of test centres include Prestwick Airport, Galashiels, Dunoon, Motherwell and Stranraer to add to the ones in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Inverness and Perth.
