Interest in new business park on outskirts of Moray town continues to build

A national tyre distributor has become the latest firm to line up a move to a new business park in Moray.

Bury-based RH Claydon has been granted planning permission to build a warehouse and distribution operation at the Elgin Business Park on the eastern outskirts of the town.

The company follows local firms S & D Harper and Speyside Scaffolding Services with a Travelodge hotel currently under construction and a Euro Garages petrol station with a drive-through Starbucks also planned for the site.

It is hoped that the business park, which is run by developer Saltire Business Parks, will sustain up to 4,000 jobs over the next decade at the Barmuckity site on the A96 Aberdeen to Inverness road.

The project was launched amid concerns about space for existing local companies to expand as well as capacity to attract new firms.

In a report, Moray Council planning officer Iain Drummond concluded that the RH Claydon development complied with the authority’s economic development policies.

He said: “Business park are expected to have high amenity uses compared with traditional industrial estates, however Barmuckity is identified as a mixed site with general industrial, storage and distribution uses allowed.

“The Barmuckity Business Park strategic framework identifies the area of the park in which this stie is located as a core location for general industrial, storage and distribution uses.

“In this case the proposed tyre distribution centre is considered suitable.”
