A 56-year-old Elgin man who spat on a police officer’s face, claiming he had Covid-19, will be sentenced next month.
William Mackay, of Ernest Hamilton Court, admitted the assault, committed in his home on June 6 this year. He was on bail at the time.
Inverness Sheriff Court heard that police had gone to the property to arrest him in connection with another matter and he became aggressive with them.
Fiscal depute David Morton told the court: “The spittle landed on an officer’s face and his body armour.
“A spit hood was then placed over his head to avoid any further risk to those present.”
Sentence on Mackay was deferred until November 26 for a background report and restriction of liberty order assessment.
Mackay’s bail was continued until that date.
