Judges at the Elgin Strathspey and Reel Scots Fiddle Festival have praised the “high standard” of those who took part this weekend.

The 45th annual gathering attracted 100 entries from across the north and north-east of Scotland and as far as Edinburgh.

Williamson Hall in Elgin was packed for the event on Saturday, giving competitors a boost as they played.

The youngest winner was Robert Feguson from Drummuir, who picked up the Kim Murray Trophy.

Buckie High School won the secondary schools ensemble and George Davidson, from Tarves, won the championship class for the second year running.

Adjudicator Maureen Rutherford said: “I was extremely impressed with the very high standard of playing throughout the day.

“Traditional Scottish music is very much alive in this area.

“There is sterling work being done by the instrumental instructors in Moray.”

Festival co-secretary Louise McLean added: “I was very pleased with the support and attendance throughout the day and the Williamson Hall was packed to capacity.

“This provided an extremely welcoming and exciting atmosphere throughout the entire day.

“Elgin Strathspey and Reel Festival Committee is always very grateful for the continued sponsorship of our Elgin Rotary Club.”
