Hundreds flock to see Santa and reindeer at north-east winter parade

Santa and his reindeer drew hundreds of revelers to Banff's historic town centre.

An annual reindeer procession attracted hundreds of festive revellers and shoppers to a north-east port to catch a glimpse of Santa Claus.

Crowds lined the streets of Banff for the seasonal display, now in its ninth year, which is organised by the town’s famous Spotty Bag Shop.

Six reindeer from the Cairngorms pulled a sleigh carrying Father Christmas through the town centre and past the iconic store.

The procession, which included attractions from Aviemore’s Spencer’s Funfair for families to enjoy, was blessed with clear weather and youngsters enjoyed having the chance to see the reindeer up close.

Last night, a spokesman for the organisers said: “Thanks to everyone who turned out to see our annual reindeer parade today. This was definitely the biggest crowd by far.

“We would also like to thank all of our loyal customers for their support during this very busy year for us. We hope you all have a magical Christmas and let’s hope 2017 is a good one for you all.”

The parade marked Santa’s third high-profile appearance in the north-east in the run up to Christmas this year.

Last weekend, he was ferried to the nearby port of Fraserburgh by the town’s lifeboat crew on the Trent class vessel Willie and May Gall.

He has also taken time out of a packed festive schedule to go diving to feed the fish at Macduff Marine Aquarium.
