Complaints about fish factory workers clogging residential streets with their cars are being looked into by a council.
Boddam residents say more and more Thistle Seafoods employees are leaving their cars outside homes rather than parking at the factory.
The plant, which employs about 450 people, requires workers to be at their stations from as early as 6am.
It means that many drive to work rather than use public transport – but are unable to find a space within the facility.
Boddam Community Association wrote to the firm last week asking bosses if something could be done to take the strain off the roads.
And Aberdeenshire Council has now stepped in to offer its help.
In a letter to Associaiton member Sam Coull, seen by the P&J, authority feedback officer Aaron Scoular said the infrastructure service would launch an investigation into the problems.
A spokeswoman for the council added: “We can confirm that our infrastructure services team are aware of the concerns raised by Mr Coull and will respond in due course.”
Thistle Seafoods has said that efforts to prevent staff from taking their cars to work have already been deployed – including providing five buses to and from the factory.
Managing director Ryan Scatterty stressed that purchasing more land for a new car park was not an option at present.
“We provide and pay for five bus runs for our employees which costs us over £80,000 per year,” he said.
“We have also been able to get two further public services put on through Stagecoach.
“We haven’t been able to purchase land to help alleviate the situation.
“Everybody would like to see less car usage, but throwing in additional car parking space – wherever – won’t solve this.”
