A 165-year-old flower show may have bloomed its last because no-one can be found to keep it running.
Aberchirder’s “Foggie” event brings about 1,000 people to the village for the displays and the end-of-show dance.
It has run every August since 1852 – interrupted only by two World Wars.
Written archives stretch back as far back as 1875 – when a committee met to decide on the 23rd annual event.
But its future is in doubt as the remaining members scramble to find a new group secretary in time to plan this year’s event.
The committee, led by the show’s president Aileen Wilson, met on Thursday in an attempt to fill the gap, but last night were forced to concede that, if their latest appeal failed, they would likely have to cancel.
Ms Wilson said: “We have been looking for a secretary amongst our own committee since September.
“But there are no members who feel that they can take that on.
“As a result, no secretary means there will be no event.
“It’s the largest event the community has and its the largest of its type in Banffshire. We can’t run it without one.”
Part of the secretary’s duties is to book the necessary infrastructure, including catering and marquee tents.
“We’re looking for someone who would relish that exciting, dynamic challenge,” Ms Wilson added.
“We have lots of people who would be willing to help and support a person interested in coming in. It’s just a matter of finding that person.
“It’s a big thing for the community, we just don’t want to see it go in the backdrop of events struggling. We don’t want to become another statistic.”
This year’s event is slated to go ahead on August 12, but planning needs to start by March 9.
