Police have confirmed that a teenager has been charged in connection with a “serious incident” at a north-east school.
The Press and Journal revealed on Monday that a fight broke out at Turriff Academy last week. which involved at least two pupils.
Fellow students captured the brawl on their smartphones and shared the images on social media, leading to a call from the school’s headteacher for parents to erase the footage from their children’s devices.
It was the second fight to have been filmed at the school by pupils.
In 2015, a clip of two boys brawling outside Turriff Academy was captured on camera while the youngsters waited for their buses home.
The 30-second video showed one boy had a knife tucked into his trousers during the incident.
The culprit admitted assault and having a bladed weapon in public when he appeared in court last February, and was given a community payback order.
Police have now charged a 14-year-old with assault in relation to the most recent incident, which took place at lunchtime on Thursday, March 9.
He will be reported to the Youth Justice Management Unit as a result.
Last night, a spokeswoman for the force said: “Local officers will continue to work with partner agencies to provide support and assistance where required.
