Three teenage boys have been charged in connection with a spate of vandalism at a north-east primary school.

Nursery equipment at Macduff Primary School on Berrymuir Road was damaged after the building was targeted between March 9 and 10.

And just as the mess was being cleared up vandals struck again between March 15 and 16.

Police were alerted to both incidents.

A 15-year-old and a 16-year-old have now been charged in connection with the first incident, while a 14-year-old has been charged in connection with the second. All three boys will be reported to the Youth Justice Management Unit.

Constable Graeme Smith, who led the investigations into the vandalism, said: “I would like to thank the local community for their assistance and co-operation while inquiries were carried out.

“Although the damage reported did not amount to a significant total in financial terms, the impact on the nursery and primary school pupils, parents as well as staff cannot be underestimated.”

Last night newly re-elected Troup councillor Hamish Partridge praised the police for their work pursuing the case.

“Acts of vandalism like this are disappointing.

“Hopefully people will think again before doing this sort of thing.”

Mr Partridge, an independent councillor, added: “I’d like to thank the police for their hard work investigating these incidents.”

Macduff Primary School has a roll of more than 300 pupils, as well as nearly 100 nursery children.

The vandalism incidents in early March coincided with another incident at a school in the neighbouring town of Banff.

Vandals struck at the new Deveron Community and Sports Centre at Banff Academy, only hours after the multimillion-pound facility opened for the first time.
