Man makes fifth attempt to demolish historic home and build modern property

What the home could have looked like in Inverallochy.

A north-east man has made a fresh bid to convert a cottage in a tiny fishing village.

Inverallochy resident George Nicol has made four previous applications to turn the 150-year-old property in the community’s Main Street into a modern home.

His latest attempt, which would retain the structure of the traditional home rather than demolishing it, was lodged with Aberdeenshire Council last week.

Government squashes development plan for tiny village

The authority has previously blocked Mr Nicol’s plans because they would be a departure from the area’s conservation zone.

The Scottish government has also previously intervened to halt any work.

The new proposal for Main Street would create a three-bedroom house complete with library, two lounge areas and a dining room.

The bedrooms of the new-look home would be connected to the main property by a glass hallway.

A separate boat shed would be built to the rear.

Members of the public have until August 2 to air their views on the plans.

In earlier versions of the scheme, locals had raised concerns about whether the village roads – which are mostly single-track – could accommodate the build.
