A Macduff church has launched a plea for knitters to help the community commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War.
Macduff Parish Church has signed up to create a massive poppy display but needs more people to get involved in the project.
The centenary anniversary takes places later this year and communities across the UK are doing their part to mark the occasion.
Macduff is just one of the communities in Aberdeenshire aiming to put their crafts to good use, with a poppy display in Peterhead also scheduled to go ahead.
But the organisers need more skilled knitters to help complete the project.
Last night, Andrew Simpson, Macduff Parish Church’s session clerk, said: “Remebrance Day means different things to different people and we just hope that this is something we can do to mark the occasion.
“A group of us had been talking at the end of last year about doing something to mark the 100th anniversary of World War I, and then had talks with various uniformed services and groups within the community about doing something that would be appropriate.
“This has come up, but we don’t know exactly what it will turn out as. It really depends on the number of poppies we can get.
“So up until the end of September or October, we are asking people to help.
“We have put a pattern online for people to complete and they can drop the poppies off at the local library which has agreed to help us collect them.”
In Peterhead, local woman Nancy Duncan is hoping to have 10,000 knitted poppies transformed into a large scale installation.
About 300 volunteers have already signed up to help.
She said: “It is hard to pin down an exact number because some of those involved are groups of people but I think we are at about 300 and that is absolutely fantastic.
“We have people getting in touch from Inverness, Peterhead, Banchory, Stonehaven and Westhill.”
