Police are investigating reports that at least four workers have been stealing from a north-east supermarket.

Bosses at Fraserburgh’s Tesco Superstore called the police amid concerns stock is being stolen by staff.

It is alleged the culprits have been forging online orders, allowing them to walk out the door with unpaid goods such as alcohol.

CCTV footage is to be handed over to the police in the coming days.

It is understood at least one worker has been sacked since the allegations came to light, while one insider said another three have not been seen either.

Police confirmed inquiries are ongoing, although no one has been charged.

One worker, who does not want to be named, claimed alcohol was among the items stolen.

They claimed: “None of them have been in since the investigation started.

“When you place an order for online shopping, there’s people who get a list of what you want and who will collect the stuff. What they’d do is put in an order themselves, make sure they got the trolley, and then slip in other stuff.

“It’s quite smart, because you don’t have to go through any security doors with the shopping.

“They can do checks, but there’s so many trolleys that leave the shop every day it’s unlikely that your trolley will be checked.”

Police have since questioned other members of staff about the thefts.

“We were made aware of alleged thefts on May 1,” a spokeswoman said.

“Inquiries are ongoing.”

Tesco was unavailable for comment.
