A new defibrillator will be installed at a Buchan sports club after the device saved the life of a rugby player in Fraserburgh.
The equipment will be set up at Catto Park Pavilion in Peterhead thanks to a £1,800 donation from a local firm.
The move comes just weeks after Fraserburgh Rugby Club player Chris Arnott collapsed during a practice session at James Ramsay Park.
The 33-year-old’s heart stopped for seven minutes and he only survived the cardiac arrest due to the quick-thinking efforts of his team mates who carried out CPR and used a nearby defibrillator to save his life.
Neil Davidson, secretary of Peterhead Rugby Club, said the incident showed how vital it wss to have the machines made available to the public.
He said: “After the recent near tragedy at Fraserburgh RFC the importance of emergency life-saving equipment has been highlighted.
“With so many users at Catto Park, Peterhead Rugby felt that the lack of a defibrillator was something that needed to be addressed.
“The club would like to wish Chris Arnott a speedy and full recovery.”
Mr Arnott has been in hospital since his pitch side ordeal and only returned home yesterday.
He said he welcomed efforts in Peterhead to increase the number of defibrillators.
Mr Arnott said: “I’m glad my story has began to make a difference and if another life is saved after all of this.”
Peterhead Rugby Club and town councillor Dianne Beagrie were gearing up to launch their own fundraising bid for the defibrillator when Davidson’s Marine and Industrial Painters stepped in with the cash needed for the equipment.

Nicola Harris from the company said they were “delighted” to support the idea.
She said: “Having this life-saving equipment in our town is fantastic.
“We are delighted to support this very worthwhile project.”
