An award-winning north-east visitor attraction has launched a search for classic car enthusiasts to be involved in its summer event.

Peterhead Prison Museum plans to hold a vintage vehicle extravaganza later in the year and wants petrol heads to be part of it.

Anyone with an antique car, van, motorcycle or agricultural vehicle is being urged to get involved in the showcase.

It will take place at the South Road attraction on Saturday July 13 but organisers want to gauge how much interest there is for the second event of its kind.

Alex Geddes, operations manager at the museum, said the classic vehicle exhibition has the potential to be “amazing.”

He said: “We are delighted to host such an event again and look forward to seeing some amazing vehicles on the day.

“The museum will remain open to visitors on that day who will get the added bonus of seeing the event as part of their tour or, for a reduced price, visitors can just come to see the event itself.”

Anyone interested in taking part can register on the museum website at peterheadprisonmuseum.com or call 01779 482200.

The building ceased to be used as a prison in 2013, following the construction of nearby super-prison HMP Grampian.

It reopened in 2016 as a museum and has proved a hit with visitors from the north-east and beyond keen to hear about the prison’s dark past.

Peterhead Prison Museum took the best visitor attraction honour at the Aberdeen City and Shire Tourism Awards in 2018.

In 2017, museum bosses were also left celebrating after taking the Innovation in Tourism prize at the same prestigious event.
