A north-east addiction charity has launched a competition with a motorbike as the prize to help plug a funding gap.
Teen Challenge North East Scotland (TCNES) can no longer apply for vital grants due to a change in legislation.
It’s hoped money from the prize draw will make up the funding deficit to help the charity continue its work at residential recovery centres.
The winner will be given a brand new Triumph Scrambler 1200 XC.
TCNES area manager Gordon Cruden said: “We’re excited to launch this new prize draw which will assist us in our continued fundraising aims.
“Present legislation has dictated that our services to support people do not qualify for vital funding – which we were previously allocated – causing a significant financial deficit for us.
“On top of that, costs relating to the running of our recovery homes continue to rise with, for example, new staff training requirements being introduced, meaning that actually more money is needed.
“This has forced us to look at new, innovative ways to raise money so that we can help more men, women and children out of the horror of addiction.
“Local people have been fantastic at rallying behind our cause and this prize draw gives them a fresh opportunity to contribute to our work, and potentially win a brand new motorbike, valued at £11,500, for just a £5 ticket.”
The charity provides addicts with a rural residence in Aberdeenshire – Sunnybrae near Fyvie for men and Benaiah near Mintlaw for women – and puts them through a faith-centred course to bring them away from substance misuse.
Mr Cruden added: “As an organisation, we are passionate about supporting men and women to break free from life-destroying addictions, and this fundraising prize draw helps us to do exactly that.
“For bikers, they have the opportunity to win the very latest Triumph motorbike.
“Meanwhile non-bikers can still contribute to the Teen Challenge cause and, if they win, sell the prize, take the family on the holiday of a lifetime, and have money left over.”
The draw will be made at noon on July 26 at Shirlaws Motorcycles in Aberdeen.
