An inspiring youngster from Banff whose dad had a stroke at the age of 25 is on a mission to raise money to help other survivors.
Brodie Stewart was only four-years-old when his and his family’s lives were turned upside down in December 2016.
Now his dad – who did not wish to be named – is making a full recovery thanks to support from friends and family and has been left with very few minor symptoms.
Now aged six, Brodie is calling for people to join him in raising money to help survivors other families who have been affected.
The determined young boy is preparing to take on the 600 metre run at Run Garioch in aid of Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland (CHSS).
Brodie said: “I don’t want anyone else’s dads to have a stroke, it’s really scary.
“I am really excited to run 600 metres.
“I want everyone to run at Run Garioch and help people like my dad.”
Throughout the year, Brodie is also organising and taking part in other fundraising activities for the charity.
Lisa Stewart, Brodie’s mum, said: “As a mum my heart just broke thinking about Brodie growing up without his dad by his side.
“To see Brodie turn such a dark time for the family into something so positive and inspiring is making everyone so, so proud.
“For his Dad to be able to see him now, fundraising for charity and helping others, it is just so special.
“It really makes you cherish these moments. The whole family is in complete awe of him.”
Following a diagnosis of a stroke, chest or heart condition people may experience fear, isolation or struggle with the impact on their lives.
CHSS delivers care and support to ensure everyone affected can live as they want to.
Katie Jones, fundraising officer at CHSS, said: “It’s so inspiring to see the hard work and effort our youngest fundraising heroes put in to help change people’s lives.
“We are so delighted to have Brodie on Team CHSS running with us and we can’t thank him enough for all his support.”
The Run Garioch events include a 5k, 10k, half marathon and a variety of junior runs which can be done in support of team CHSS.
