A magician from Fraserburgh is celebrating after coming out tops in a card magic contest.
Norn Bichan took the Aberdeen Magical Society’s top prize for his display at their annual competition.
He won the Ron Gordon Trophy after impressing with both his technical skill and entertainment value.
The prize is named after named after prolific card magic specialist Ron Gordon, the nephew of legendary entertainer Harry Gordon.
Mr Bichan saw off five other competitors to claim the honour and said it came as a surprise to him.
He said: “I was very surprised. There were five other magicians competing who are all strong and skilled in card magic, so it was a tough competition.
“The routine I performed was inspired by the work of a Venezuelan magician named Luis Otero, which really shows the art of magic’s international reach. I’ve been working on the routine for years, so I was delighted with the result.”
Mr Bichan only starting performing later in life and he was inspired by iconic magician and illusionist David Blaine.
He said seeing the American in action prompted him to get involved in magic.
Mr Bichan said: “As an adult I saw a David Blaine special, where he performed a trick that just seemed too impossible. That prompted me to search for answers at my local library, which led to a fascination with magic and to join the Aberdeen Magical Society.
“My greatest inspirations are often people I have met throughout my journey in magic, including members of Aberdeen Magical Society past and present. Over the years, members including Ron Gordon, Bill Duncan and Peter Nicol have helped shape my knowledge and understanding of magic.”
Mr Bichan is no stranger to winning prizes having previously taken home trophies for his flea circus routine and the Aberdeen Magical Society’s close-up magic competition.
The Aberdeen Magical Society was founded in 1926, and its membership ranges from full-time professionals to amateur hobbyists.
