A renowned Scottish singing duo will take to the stage at a popular Portsoy festival this summer.
Barbara Dickson and Rab Noakes will headline the Friday Night Gig at the Green event at the Scottish Traditional Boat Festival on June 21.
As friends for more than 40 years, the pair have performed alongside each other as separate acts, occasionally together and have covered the other’s music.
Now, they have united to create a blend of folk sings, pop and self-written favourites.
Dunfermline-born Ms Dickson has established herself as a multi-million-selling recording artist with mainstream chart hits including ‘Answer Me’, ‘Another Suitcase in Another Hall’ and the No 1 single ‘I Know Him So Well’.
As Scotland’s best-selling female album artist, she has earned six platinum, 11 gold and seven silver albums throughout her career, also winning Olivier Awards for best actress and an OBE in 2002 for services to music and drama.
She said: “I’m very excited about playing in Portsoy, as the enduring memory I have of that name is that it’s where Jimmy MacBeath was born.
“Rab Noakes and I play together infrequently, so it’s doubly exciting to come to the Boat Festival with him and play in the north-east again.”
Mr Noakes has enjoyed a varied musical life as a member of Stealers Wheel and writing songs for hit-makers Lindisfarne, regularly appearing on TV, radio and constantly touring and performing – including last year’s festival.
He has recently released his solo EP and gone on tour playing those songs.
He said: “I’m delighted to be returning to bonnie Portsoy, to perform with Barbara at the 2019 Boat Festival.”
Tickets will cost £20 and go on sale on June 15 from www.stbfportsoy.org
The festival, which attracts up to 16,000 people to the town, takes place on June 22 and 23 in Portsoy to showcase Scottish crafts, food, drink, music and dance.
