The Minister of Cruden Parish Church is limbering up to run in a multi-cultural marathon for peace, which is sponsored by the Dalai Lama.

Reverend Sean Swindells will be running a half marathon in Luxembourg on Saturday, with other people of faith from around the world.

The 58-year-old will be one of the runners at the InterFaith Run for a United World event along with people of Baha’i beliefs, Christians, Buddhists, Hindus, Jews, Muslims and Sikhs.

The keen runner, who is a JogScotland leader and a member of Garioch Road Runners, enjoys a challenge.

He said: “I thought it would be a good experience and opportunity to combine running with faith and spirituality.

“In a world that is increasingly divided, it is so important that people of faith are seen to be taking the lead in breaking down barriers and fostering mutual trust and understanding.

“I have met some wonderful and inspiring people through running.

“Runners are generally a very positive bunch who are very encouraging, even when it is cold and wet.

“The same is true of church, where I have met wonderful and inspiring people. So it is nice to be able to combine both.”
