A woman was taken to hospital yesterday after her car veered from a north-east road and smashed into the side of a house, leaving it at “structurally unsafe”.
The woman’s vehicle left the A952 Toll of Birness to Mintlaw road at the junction to Dudwick shortly before 10am yesterday.
The vehicle tore through a wooden fence and collided with the granite gable wall of a home.
Upon arriving, firefighters found the vehicle was on its side with its back leaning against the building.
The driver was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary by ambulance with what the police described as “non life-threatening injuries”.
Her severely damaged Honda Accord was taken away on a recovery truck shortly after noon.
Police cordoned off the property after a visit from the structural engineers, and kept watch as the vehicle was taken away.
An officer at the scene said: “The car hit the house and now the property has been declared structurally unsafe.
“It’s not likely that the owner will be back in the house for some time and he was at work at the time of the crash.
“No one else was injured, just the female driver, and it wasn’t life-threatening.”
The vehicle’s air bags had gone off on the passenger side and many of the windows were shattered.
Much of the car’s body was crumpled, with its bonnet and front barely hanging together.
The granite wall of the house, which took the brunt of the impact, had a clear indentation where the car had collided with it.
A spokeswoman for the fire service confirmed that crews left the scene without having to remove the woman from the wreckage.
She said: “We received a call at 10.07am and we dispatched two appliances from Ellon, but on arriving at the scene we found we didn’t need to get anyone from the vehicle as they were already out.
“We assisted the police in setting up the cordon.
“The incident was then left in the hands of the police who had organised for a structural engineer to assess the building.”
A spokeswoman for the ambulance service confirmed that the woman was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
