Road closures in north-east village as Scottish Water launches essential sewer upgrade

Motorists have been advised that roads in a north-east village will be closed while essential repairs are carried out on its sewers.

Scottish Water is planning to undertake the work in Hightown, Collieston, on Tuesday, August 20 and say it should take one week.

To allow for it to be done safely, the B9003 Hightown road will be closed at the Coastguard Cottages each day from 9am to noon and from 2pm to 5pm.

Outside these times, access for vehicles belonging to residents only will be allowed though pedestrians will not be restricted.

A Scottish Water spokeswoman said: “Unfortunately this work was not able to be completed as originally planned last month and has been rescheduled for these dates to ensure the sewer network in the village can continue to serve customers and protect the local environment.

“Due to the central location of the sewer in a narrow road, the only way to complete the repair safely is by closing the road to traffic.

“We have tried to minimise the impact of the closure by reopening the road for a number of hours throughout the day but would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused to residents and road users.

“Our contractor Kier will work hard to complete the repair as quickly as possible and we thank people for their patience and understanding while it is underway.”
