Young north-east bookworms have received special prizes for using their summer break to clock up some impressive reading time.
Primary school pupils were asked to read six books or more as part of a summer reading challenge set up by libraries across Aberdeenshire.
Prizes were awarded by every local facility and 10-year-old Finlay Watson, a regular at Turriff Library, took home the overall Aberdeenshire Star Reader title by devouring the most books.
The winners received certificates and a medal produced on a 3D printer.
Finlay also received a £100 book gift card to ensure he has some fresh titles to work through now, and a year’s supply of ice cream which was donated by Mackie’s.
Karin Hayhow, marketing director at Mackie’s, said: “Regular reading is such an important part of a child’s development.
“We are very proud to support a local challenge that’s helping the next generation get excited about reading as they let their imagination take them on a journey with each page they turn.”
Prizes were also up for grabs for bookmark designs in the a creative competition, and the winners received their goodies during a recent ceremony at the council’s headquarters in Aberdeen.
