A UK-wide beach cleaning event is coming to the north-east next week as part of efforts to free the coast from plastic pollution.
Environmental charity Surfers Against Sewage’s will lead the event at Cruden Bay and are encouraging a small army of volunteers to help out.
People of all ages are invited to join in the effort, which will run from noon until 2pm on Saturday, October 19.
Some gloves and bags will be provided but those with their own equipment are encouraged to bring it with them to sort out litter from recyclables and wear suitable clothing.
In a Facebook appeal encouraging people to participate, a spokesman for Surfers Against Sewage said: “Every single piece of plastic pollution we clean up from beaches matters.
“By removing it, we stop it eventually polluting the open ocean, breaking up into tiny pieces and potentially staying around for decades.”
Those interested in taking part in the clean-up effort should meet at the bridge leading to the beach in Cruden Bay.
A series of beach cleans will run all over the UK from October 19-27.
Since 2011, there have been over 1,000 beach cleans nationwide, clearing more than 14,000 kilos of plastic pollution from the coastline.
Last year more than 5,600 people braved the cold in a bid to make the UK coastline plastic free.
