A woman with extensive experience in the north-east has been appointed as the new vice lord lieutenant of Banffshire.

Patricia Seligman was commissioned for the post at a ceremony in Banff Springs Hotel this week.

She was appointed following the death of Roger Goodyear, who carried out the duties and represented the Queen in the north-east for eight years.

He served with former lord lieutenant of Banffshire, Clare Russell, who stepped down in August after 17 years.

She has been replaced by former Elgin High head Andrew Simpson.

Ms Seligman moved to the region in 1974 and is heavily involved in farming and the arts.

She is also involved in various organisations such as the Talking Banffiee, Turra Talk, Deveron Music, the North East Scotland Preservation Trust and Banff Partnership and Coast Arts Festival.

She was appointed to the role of deputy lieutenant in April 2002 and has been involved in arranging a number of royal visits, remembrance services and nominating people for invitations to royal garden parties.

Mr Simpson said he was pleased the Queen has approved the decision for her to step up as vice lord lieutenant, and said: “Patricia has achieved a huge amount for Banffshire over many years in a variety of roles, and she was add greatly to the lieutenancy and to Banffshire.”
