A north-east store has joined the fight against coronavirus by delivering more than 500 essential kits to vulnerable and elderly people in its town.

The Spotty Bag Shop in Banff has delivered parcels to the people who need it most in the local area.

Each free kit is filled with essential items such as hand soap, toilet roll and paracetamol which was delivered to those self isolating.

Shop owner, Des Cheyne said the initiative had been met with a really good response.

He said staff at the shop have also been “taking every precaution possible to continue for the time being”.

Mr Cheyne said: “We’re working with skeleton staff and have been cleaning the baskets and trollies.”

The shop has also seen a “surge” in home deliveries since social distancing measures were implemented.

Mr Cheyne added: “We’ve always done home deliveries but nothing on this scale before.

“The response has been good. It suggests that people are heeding the advice from the government to stay at home.”

We’re grateful for the support from our customers at this time. It’s challenging not only health wise for people but also economically.

“I hope we can all help each other out and that other north-east businesses can pull through ok.”

Councillor Glen Reynolds said the “work of Des Cheyne is to be commended”.

He said: “The Spotty Bag Shop is leading by example.”
