Three soldiers are taking on a 110-mile trek across the north-east in an effort to raise funds for the NHS.
Staff sergeant Robert Ledingham, sergeant Byron Nichols and lieutenant Robert Power have set themselves the challenge of walking 110 miles along the Buchan Way in 24 hours.
The trio will set off on the march from Dyce to Peterhead in July after being inspired by Sir Tom Moore – who raised more than £30 million for the NHS by walking laps of his garden last month.
Mr Ledingham had thought about doing it himself but decided that it would be a good opportunity for he and his friends from the 39 Engineer Regiment at Kinloss Army Barracks “to form a close bond”.
In the first 18 hours of the fundraising page going live, it exceeded its £2, 000 target.
Mr Ledingham last night praised the “immense and unbelievably generous” response.
He said: “I didn’t expect to raise that money in a short time frame, we’ve now increased the target and we hope to achieve that by the event day.”
The father-of-three from Peterhead also hopes that a few businesses get in touch and sponsor the effort.
