A north-east charity that offers free bus trips to people in need has received a cash boost of more than £22,000.
The Buchan Dial-a-Community-Bus has received a grant of £22,717.80 from the Fairer Aberdeenshire Fund.
The funding will allow the service to recommence for a further year once restrictions have been removed.
Last year, the Be-Link’D pilot project was developed, however it had to close due to Covid-19 restrictions.
This service is tailored to meet the needs of people wishing to improve their skills and employment opportunities, for those finding it difficult to attend appointments or to join in social activities as well as those requiring access to services and shops.
The fund applied for aims to improve life chances and reduce inequalities “ensuring everybody is treated with dignity and respect.”
Chairman of the volunteer Dial-a-Community Bus Board, Spencer Critten, said: “This fits well with the Dial a Bus ethos and the Board is delighted to be able to provide transport that helps address these issues.”
The Buchan Dial-a-Community Bus is continuing its shopping and prescription delivery service to clients, along with patient transport and general support as and when required.
A provisional date of July 1 is being proposed for the Be-Link’D service, but this is dependent on government guidelines.
